Volunteer Spotlight - Deb Kay

Community Kids is shining a spotlight on Deb Kay this week! Deb and her husband George began attending CFC in September of 2019. They both have a huge heart for serving, which we are so thankful for! Deb teaches once a month in the Saturday night 2’s & 3’s class and she was a Kid’s Camp Volunteer this year. You will also see Deb serving in our cafe! Keep reading to find out where she gets her passion for serving and what songs you might hear her singing as she does!

Best part of volunteering: It’s a great way to meet people – and I just love to serve!

Hardest part of volunteering: I can’t really think of any “hard” part!

Why do you serve/think it’s important to serve in the church?: Serving is just part of who I am. I grew up in a family that regularly served in the church and I have continued doing it throughout my life. I’m so thankful I married a guy who also has a passion to serve! To me, serving the church is just a natural part of being in a church family. When we began attending CFC, it felt so big to me – but as I got involved in serving, I was able to get to know more people and the size no longer felt so overwhelming!

Favorite Verse or Worship Song : Oh my, I have so many of both! I guess if I had to pick a verse, though, it would be Psalm 61:1,2 – “My soul finds rest in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my Rock and my Salvation, He is my Fortress, I will not be shaken.” I have so many favorite worship songs, it’s hard to pick one – but there are 2 choruses I find myself regularly singing, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” and “It is Well With My Soul” – so I guess those are favorites!

Something people at CFC may not know about you: I took a trip to Zambia, Africa in 1990 with our 2 children (who were then 12 & 14) and spent 5 weeks with my parents who were serving there as missionaries. That was a HUGE stretch for me – I’m not a big traveler and certainly not one to make that kind of trip “on my own” with our children. I still have a hard time believing I actually did that – especially being away from George for 5 weeks!! But it was an awesome opportunity to experience another country and it significantly impacted my life.

Deb, we love to see your smiling face at CFC! Thank you for plugging in! Together we are making Committed Followers of Christ!
