Volunteer Spotlight | David and Jerilyn Buttolph

We have been serving as greeters on the Frontline team for about 2 years. We love people and like to have an opportunity to interact with other members of the body of Christ at church. We feel it is a way to serve, but also a way to get to know people. Serving makes us feel more connected to the church, and it has helped us be more purposeful with our first and ongoing interactions with people.

Helping the newcomers feel comfortable and welcome when they enter the church is a huge priority and something we really like to do. Helping others is a blessing in so many ways. Since we also serve in the 2 and 3 year old classroom, we are able to see many of the families come in and out of church. Greeting becomes another point of connection with them. We become a familiar face and we feel it helps people to feel more comfortable and welcome. There is a physiological dynamic to entering a new or closed space. We are not just handing out programs, we are working as an ambassador and liaison for the worship efforts that are taking place at the front of the sanctuary.
