The Gospel of Mark

Bobby Parschauer  |  News

I’ve found it helpful to study whole books of the Bible in order to position myself to understand the flow of God’s thoughts. It’s exciting for us to embark on this journey together. The Gospel of Mark was written for the Roman Empire to explain the identity of Jesus of Nazareth. John Mark who is a “son” in the faith to Peter (1 Peter 5:13) writes on Peter’s behalf using a literary voice that is simple and urgent. He does so in order for Rome to get a clear message. Mark has no time for theological agendas or personal opinion. With precision he documents for Rome the life of Christ.

It is a privilege to get a glimpse into the steps of God walking on earth. Our questions can be answered, “What is God like?” “Who is He?” and “What can I learn from Him?” From the opening verse referring to Jesus as the “Son of God”, to the final accounts where you see a Roman centurion recognizing, “Truly this is the Son of God”, we start to understand that we are not talking about a local religious leader, but about a global shift. God came to us!! This affects Rome! This affects the world.

The Son of God, however, does not come with brute force like a Roman Emperor would. Instead He comes as a servant, a healer, a teacher, and a friend. He offers us forgiveness, hope and ultimately His own life as a ransom for freedom. This journey becomes an inspiration for every reader to emulate the character of God to the world around us. “He did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45).

May God use our time together to inspire, encourage and guide our lives for God’s glory and for His purposes.

Bobby Parschauer

Senior Teaching Pastor

After growing up overseas and serving as a missionary in Austria, God has developed in Bobby a love and passion for teaching and sharing the Word of God. It is exciting to see God at work globally and how Scripture changes lives. In 2007, he and his wife, Jen, along with their 3 children joined CFC, and soon after the Lord led him into the position of Lead Pastor.
