Meet CFC’s New Student Ministry Director

Dan Smith  |  News  |  Student Ministry

We are excited to announce that in about two weeks Douglas Kersten, along with his wife Leah, will be arriving here in Lancaster to become the next Student Ministry Director for CFC. Douglas is originally from the Pittsburgh area. He and his wife just finished up a six-month assignment in Germany for her work. Formerly, Douglas was Assistant Student Ministry Pastor at Riverside Community Church in Pittsburgh; which is similar in size to CFC and has a student ministry of about 150 students.

Douglas will be responsible for our 5th and 6th graders in Generation Next, plus our Junior High, and Senior High programs. This position, however, is not the same as it has been in the past. Our church is growing and Douglas’ challenge will be to take our Student Ministry to the next level. He will be tasked with continuing to build onto our current team of adults and also bring in students to share in leadership of this ministry.

As a member of the Executive Ministry Team, he will participate in the overall direction of our church ensuring that Student Ministry goals align with the overall strategic plan for CFC. He will also be managing and developing the architecture and the atmosphere of Student Ministry, all for the purposes of leading our young people toward a full life in Jesus Christ. Douglas has been through a rigorous interview process. (We basically put him through the ringer).

He is an articulate, creative man with a heart for young people. He is highly relational, outgoing, and well-versed in contemporary youth culture. With the blessing of the search team, the elders, and the staff, we are confident that Douglas will bring great things to CFC Student Ministry. We look forward to introducing him to the church body in the next few weeks!
