CFC MIssions Partners Prayer Requests | September 2018

 |  News  |  Missions

Africa -Pray for the IJM Uganda team as they explore potential partnerships in the country in preparation for launching a national program to combat violence against women and children. To date, IJM has been effectively responding to crimes of land theft against widows and orphans in Gulu and Kampala, and this year our teams have begun taking on cases of domestic violence and sexual violence in order to develop a plan to respond to violence against women and children more broadly. Pray for the team as these transitions are underway, for discernment and for partnerships with wise leaders in these types of casework.

Latin America -Celebrate with our Bolivia team, as last week they secured a conviction against a man who kidnaped and raped an 8-year old girl in 2013. After almost five years of persistent hard work and facing many roadblocks, IJM lawyers secured a conviction for this man. In the last minutes of the final hearing, the judge asked the survivor’s mom what she wanted, “I just wanted justice for my daughter” she replied. Then the judged declared an eight-year prison sentence. Praise God that justice has been served in this case. Continue praying for this survivor, her mother and her two sisters who can continue working toward restoration knowing their words were heard and the system acted in their favor.

South Asia -Continue to pray for our teams coordinating graduation events for more than 1,000 survivors who have completed our aftercare program. After they were rescued from slavery in 2016, these families have been part of a two-year program to teach them life skills, equip them to live in freedom and help address their trauma from slavery. These graduation events are a huge undertaking, and also require a lot of input from the local government. Pray our teams could handle all the delicate details and give these survivors a beautiful, honoring experience as they transition to independent life.

Southeast Asia -Please pray for IJM’s team in Bangkok as we work with our partners to bring cases of trafficking in the Thai fishing industry to light. Pray that we would be able to support Thai law enforcement to find and rescue workers who are victims of trafficking — even as they’re moving between ports and fishing boats — and to bring their traffickers to justice.

Illyricum Movement

- Continued prayer for the summer evangelism efforts (children’s arts camps, Adult English and German classes) that they will attract families to the new church plant - Frescu Gospel Church in Tirana Albania - and many will come to saving faith in Jesus.

-Please pray for the Albanian team and those coming from other countries to help with this effort - for strength in these busy days in the summer heat, for health, and especially for spiritual insight to speak the gospel to those that come to these programs.

New:

- Pray for the first Sunday worship Services planned to begin the second week of September. Pray that many in the neighborhood will be drawn by God to attend and that God will open hearts to respond to the gospel.

- Thank the Lord for the well attended camps and programs thus far this summer

Life Cycles

Overview: We are on a sound financial and spiritual footing, praying continuously to remain connected to the Vine.

- Specific (people): We are serving 52 boys this summer and have worked with 132 boys since we began in 2015.

- Specific (people): We have 62 leaders volunteering to reach boys Jesus’ life changing message.

- Specific (finances): We are financially sound but will experience our largest drain on cash this month as we pay for two challenge rides that occurred in the last 4 weeks.

- Specific (operations): For the first time, we conducted TWO challenge rides this summer. One was designed for our entry level riders and the second (new effort) ride was a week long trip from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C.

- Looking forward: This week, we hold our summer picnic for 150 people. Next week, 42 or our teens and leaders will represent LIFECYCLES in the Lancaster Covered Bridge Ride.
