The Kingdom Declared | Matthew 6:1-18
Twenty years ago, living in Ethiopia, Em and I had a crazy home invasion experience. (More on that this weekend). Needless to say, we went from being fully asleep to fully awake in seconds. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is a declaration of the message of the Kingdom. In Matthew 5, he is shaking the people awake from their cultural coma by challenging their definitions of right and wrong. This week, as we continue in Matthew 6, we find Jesus warning of the dangers of hypocrisy and cutting straight to the heart of our motives for doing good.
