Mission Partner Spotlight | FCA

Hello CFC!

Mike Hojnacki here. I serve with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in Eastern PA and it’s a pleasure to be able to update you on we have been up to during the last few months. Fellow staff, Chris Rich, and I are so grateful for CFC’s support of our ministry in many ways.

If this is your first time hearing about FCA, our work is very simple: We tell people about Jesus through sports. And just because we were hit with a global pandemic, our goal is still the same! We’ve moved from fields and the coaches’ office to Zoom, but ministry continues to flourish. Many student athletes and coaches experienced an abrupt end to their seasons and semesters, and FCA was right there to step in the gap and provide hope amidst a significant trial. Glory to God!

Since the quarantine took effect, here are a few highlights…

  1. Our field ministries moved to virtual platforms (Zoom, YouVersion, etc). In some cases, our reach in the community has gone FURTHER as more coaches and athletes are looking for meaningful connections and hope. Our wrestling staff member in PA, Ben Swarr, had struggled to engage coaches in a meaningful discipleship setting, but when everyone was quarantined, coaches had the time and he now leads 20+ men on a weekly call! They explore their true purpose in coaching and underlying Biblical principles for a lasting impact.

  2. We have continued to develop our international FCA partnerships in the Philippines and Myanmar. Most recently, several PA staff (including myself) participated in a training session for our Philippines teammates. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and growing together (see above picture). We are also actively seeking financial support to help train and launch the first FCA staff in Myanmar!
  3. Finally, we transferred our college camp and our multi-sport camps into the virtual space as well. Our college camp takes place weekly on Thursday nights in June and our multi-sport “Legends Experience” will begin in July. If your son or daughter had a camp that was cancelled this summer, we invite you to join us for Legends so that they can re-connect in a meaningful way and continue their athletic and spiritual development!

Here are several simple ways that you can engage with FCA at this time…

  1. GIVE: We are seeking to raise an additional $1,000 of support to launch the first FCA staff in Myanmar. To support this project or the local staff needs, go to… www.my.fca.org/mikehojnacki

  2. PRAY: With so much happening in the virtual space now, the enemy does not like it. Please pray specifically against any hiccups with technology as we share the Gospel and activate discipleship settings. We know we have a special opportunity, but there is opposition that manifests in technical difficulties!

  3. LEGENDS: As mentioned before, please consider investing in your son or daughter by sending them to the LEGENDS experience. This is a de-centralized camp setting, with a blended digital and personal experience that will challenge you in your sport, faith, and life. Registration and camp info at… https://www.midatlanticfcacamps.org/legends
